Have you tried:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/system/assoed21.zip the file
association editor? What shows up associated with .ZIP files?

What happens if you double click on the icon of some .ZIP file on your
hard drive?

Just shots in the dark... HTH
