They still have a pretty good rep for quality. However, these day DVD
drives and such are commodity items, so it's part to justify paying a
premium for branding. I just picked up a MadDog "does anything and
everything" unit at MicroCenter for something like $20 after rebates. I
needed something to replace the CD drive in one of my testboxes. The CD
drive worked reasonably well for a 9 year old drive, but was fussy about
reading CD-RW. The MadDog has no such problem and I suspect it will do
DVDs just fine when I need it to.

Keep in mind who the target audience is. This is the requirement for
running the burner software on windows without producing too many
coasters. You should have not problems with your box.
