FWIW, I tend to dislike pain, so I have workarounds that attempt to avoid
the occurrence of unnecessary pain. Whenever I have to do something odd
to get something working, I leave myself a note in the directory
containing the modified files in a notes file that always has a standard
name (SHLNotes.txt). The note can be pretty cryptic since it only needs
enough detail to jog my memory years later. Since the note files all have
the same name, they are easy to find, even on backups. They are also easy
to restore fram a backup to a new installation.

Regards,

Steven
