Table or no, I thought there was a _very large_ number
of models (but they might have been older 56K ext.
models . . . ) that worked just fine with OS/2 or eCS.
You did need a serial port, though, and that may be
one of those things that have been going away in MBs
or computers, over the last few years.
In particular, there were quite a few US Robotics
models. Ray pointed me towards a K56FLEX V.92 ext.
faxmodem. (This one is *not* USR. I can cite an
exact model # for you, if you like.) I picked one of
these up for peanuts on Ebay, barely used. It would
be used here mostly as a spare, in specific
circumstances. Says "for Windows XP" on the box, but
it ain't no WinModem. Works fine with OS/2 -- and
therefore almost certainly must also for eCS -- as
I've tested it.
