I have DFSEE 8x and use it, but I still bring up v.
6.17 sometimes. (I think some of the drive cloning
defaults changed in later versions, and I prefer the
earlier approach.) To say that v. 6 is no longer
functional would be overstating the case, IMO. To be
sure, there has been plenty of development since then,
with much functionality addition and polishing.
Perhaps someone more learned will disagree, but I'm
not aware of any reason why v. 6x would not "show it
like it is", in terms of what is or is not there on
the drive. Some of what it tells you is in need of
interpretation, and I often don't understand it, but
it strikes me as a pretty reliable indicator of what
the situation is with that drive.
