I have a preloaded XP laptop. It also has W2K and eCS 1.2rm. And I
reinstalled XP using the "recover" disc. They all connect to the net
both wired and wireless. Unfortunately, everything on this machine went
so easy that I didn't make any notes. The only thing I remember was it
took a couple iterations to get all the OSs using the same WAP key.

While Windows may not install NetBEUI by default 98 and NT have it as a
menu item addon. I have never had to go searching for a file on those
or XP. I just went thru XP "Set up a home or small office network." and
never found anyplace to add a protocol. The help article "How to
install NetBEUI on Win XP" does send you looking for Nbf.sys and
Netnbf.inf, but I know for sure I didn't.

My only point is, it must be easy, I did it.

Hang in.

Ray
