The LSI Logic adapter mentioned below is good for what you want to do.
The ancient scanner needs nothing more, and the SCSI hard drive, used for
backup only and not booting, will be backwards compatible with all previous
SCSI standards. Also cabling will be cheaper and not as critical as with
newer SCSI. [I had to 'dumb-down' one channel of my two-channel, bootable
SCSI LSI host adapter to talk to my ancient HP IIcx scanner.]
I _may_ have a similar "spare" non-bootable adapter lying around somewhere,
unused. If you would like it (free), ask (offline only) and I'll look for it.
Don't wait too long, as I'm leaving for the summer and will soon be real
busy, then gone.

Cabling and termination are the two BIGGEST SCSI issues. Most SCSI problems
involve one or both of these issues.
