There's a lot that can be trimmed from CD#1. There's always going to be a
CD#2.

Newer drives are genrally better at burning to the edges. I will admit to
doing things my way and have been know to delete some files before
generating an ISO image. This allows me to add some testing support at
the expense of a couple of the unicode fonts.
