Martin,
Let me suggest the following:

If you have UniMaint or Sentry (both products from GammaTech), you can use
either one to back up the Desktop. Both products have specific facilities to do that. You
might try either one and then use a 2 step restore process as :

1. Restore most of your system from the backup using "XCopy" for the
OS/2 commandline session or the "Copy" command for the 2OS2 commandline
session.

2. Restore the desktop from the UniMaint or Senty backup
