I agree with Bob that you should wait for the new MB before doing anything
that might write to the drive. This includes chkdsk. Given your current
status, I would not trust chkdsk to not attempt to fix something that not
really broken. This is not unreasonable since you are not sure you are
reading good data from the drive.
Offhand, the failures you describe have all the marks of being a cable or
termination issue. However, it could be the HBA or just a side effect of
the failing MB.
I would recommend doing your testing with dfsee. The dfsee check command
is non-destructive. If it reports no errors, you can safefy clear the
dirty flag.
