Happiest Holidays to everyone.
Summary: When I ftp with Hobbes, I "hang" after login and I need some
ideas for tracing the problem.
Details: I'm using ftp.exe from Warp 4 FP 10. When I ftp to
hobbes.nmsu.edu I can log in anonymously, but my first command "dir"
does the following:
230 Guest login ok, access restrictions apply.
ftp> dir
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
and then hangs forever.
I can ftp to scoug.com and successfully "dir". Thus the problem seems
to be with Hobbes.
New software is being uploaded to Hobbes so others can ftp to it.
I moved my machine two weeks ago (to San Diego) and I am now on a
LinkSys router along with two Windows machines. Both Windows machines
can successfully ftp to Hobbes and "dir".
I could always ftp with Hobbes before moving the machine. Since the
move I cannot ftp with Hobbes.
The LinkSys router doesn't appear to be blocking my connection's ftp
port 20 (data port) because I can ftp "dir" with scoug.com.
Using Robert's suggestion from a few days ago, I unplugged my network
cable for a few seconds to disconnect all ghost sockets and get network
traffic to zero (I use IPSpeed for monitoring). Then I tried again to
ftp with Hobbes, and again it hung after the "dir". The network traffic
then went to a continuous 50-100 bytes/sec bidirectional and I have
these two open sockets:
SOCK TYPE FOREIGN LOCAL FOREIGN STATE
PORT PORT HOST
==== ========= ============= ============= =============
=============
1039 STREAM ftp-data..20 3672 128.123.3.50
ESTABLISHED
1035 STREAM ftp..21 3670 128.123.3.50
ESTABLISHED
but no response received from Hobbes for my "dir".
128.123.3.50 is Hobbes (nslookup 128.123.3.50).
Quick Summary: My OS/2 machine and two Windows XP machines go to a
LinkSys router which goes to a Hughes satellite internet connection.
Hobbes ftp "dir" won't respond to my OS/2 machine but will respond to
the XP machines. SCOUG ftp "dir" responds to all machines.
What should I do next?
