I remembered hearing about a site that purports to remove
IE from your Windows installation. A Google search turned up:
http://www.litepc.com/
There may be others.
I would think that immediately after installation you could use
IE to get whatever W98 updates & fixes are still available before
deleting it. And you'll probably have to fix the time because
of the new daylight savings time start/stop dates this year.
