Subject: SCOUG-Help: SMP install

Content Type: text/plain

Been running a dual athlon system since 2001 with current versions of
smp ecs, now at 1.2. Installed 1.2R on a new partition and smp
installed, but a bit later because of a number of mistakes and still
not too much time invested I reinstalled but smp didn't. Always had
multiple os/2 -- ecs licenses, two for 1.2 and have two key files for
1.2. First install of 1.2R used one key and second on the other.
Now have a big time investment in the install (apps etc.) but can't
convert to smp. The files from ecomstation site say must use the
maintenance tool, but the maintenance tool will not accept settings
to support smp on the new volume (it does on the old). Checked my
serial numbers on the ecomstation site and only one listed for me,
the one I used for second install. How to convert to smp installed?

1. Does the maintenance tool(v2.0.0.0) check serial numbers? If so,
is there a way to change the key file associated with an existing
installation? Maybe boot from ecs disk 1 and go to management console?

2. Or manual install? I used to have instructions and did manual
installs long ago, but can't find instructions now. At
www.tavi.co.uk/os2pages/smpmcp.html found instructions but they seem
simpler than I recall.
replace: OS2KRNL, OS2LDR, DOSCALL1.DLL
add file: OS2APIC.PSD
add line to config.sys: PSD=PS2APIC
There are other files in the zip that the maintenance tool uses.
Will these steps do it?

3. Could start over, but know there's an easier way.

4. Software subscriptions probably lapsed by now. What is the
recommendation on renewing before 2.0 is available?

Thanks,
Ben Archer
