Subject: SCOUG-Help: Soiund Card Install Help

Well, I've made progress installing eCS since last email. I have eCS 1.2
installed and working but during the install, it didn't detect the sound card
(since it was not in the base install list). The machine had a
previously-working-in-OS/2 sound card based on OPTI 931 chipset. I tried using
UNIAUD since I didn't have the drivers handy and figured that if it didn't
work, I'd go back and correct the problem. Sure enough, it didn't work but I
can't get the proper drivers installed. According to the README.TXT, I had to
delete three lines out of MMPM2.INI in MMOS2 (the ones associated with the
originally specified sound card) which I did. I then performed the following
steps:

1) Went to Install/Remove
2) Selected Multimedia Application Install
3) Add a Multimedia Feature
4) Install a Feature from Another Location (directing the installer to the
location of the driver files)
4a) The installer properly shows the addition of "OPTI Audio" and presents a
"Start Installer" push button
4b) I press the push button and the machine appears to copy the files from the
driver location
5) Another dialog comes up that looks like the original sound card install
selection dialog but instead of a list of all the possible and available sound
cards, it has only one radio button available labelled "No device" and it is
selected. At this point, there is nothing else that can be selected or done
(besides aborting) so I have to proceed. So, after electing to go forward, a
"Rebooting in 20 seconds" message comes up, but way too quickly it seems. I
guess I expected it to go and modify CONFIG.SYS and MMPM2.INI and any other
files it needs but I doesn't. Or at least I don't think it does because the
new device is not installed.

So, questions are

1) Is there anything that I can do to fix the problem?
2) If I try to brute force it by installing it manually (editing configuration
files myself), are there any other files that need to be modified other than
CONFIG.SYS and MMPM2.INI to make this successful?
3) Do I have to swap out sound cards to get something that will work? I was
hoping not to have to since this is a known working (in OS/2) sound card so one
would think that it should work in eCS. Or at least, wouldn't you think?

Of course, any offer of assistance is welcomed and thanks in advance for
reading.

-Rocky
