This could be an APL defect or it could be something you are doing. There
are several places where the orientation can be set - the object, the job
setting and the application settings. These need to be consistent.

I doubt that this has anything to do with your printing experiments.
Something has changed in your dialer setup.

It may be the same dialer software, but it's not the same configuration
data. I would be looking at the configuration data.
