It's not so much stupid as careless or not paying attention. These scams
would not exist unless they made money for someone.

As I often say, I try not to be amazed at what end users are capble of,
but I a still get amazed now and then.

IAC, stuff happens. Consider what happens to you. You are extremely
cautious and your system still gives you trouble realatively often from my
POV.
