Subject: SCOUG-Help: Question about nForce Chipsets in AMD mobos

Content Type: text/plain

Hi,

I'm seriously considering getting an older AMD mb,
because I want to use a nice AGP video card I already
have, rather than going to PCI-E, and because I want
more PCI slots than the measly 2 you get in current
models. Someone whose past reliability has been
rather spotty (*not* a SCOUG member) told me that the
nForce 3 or earlier chipsets could be squirrely, and
should be avoided, in favor of the later nForce 4 or
nForce 5. Whether or not that is true, I have no
idea, but perhaps some of you have personal experience
that sheds some light on this. And, alternatively,
what about the Cinefx 3.0 engine ?

Of course, what may have been somewhat dicey for the
Dark Side may have little bearing on how well it
worked for SNAP -- and that is going to be the
overriding concern.

TIA.

Jordan
