I guess I may need to look this up too, IF this PHY
business is going to be some *common* (?) new hurdle
the mobo mfr.s will be tossing in our way. OTOH,
since I'm leaning towards getting an older design
Socket 939 MB -- or certainly turning OFF the onboard
LAN if it gets in my way on some newer board, in favor
of a NIC of my own choosing -- maybe not.
I mean, how much of this NEW hardware really
constitutes a great leap forward that makes it a "must
have" for most of us ? My initial impression
(ill-informed though it may be) is that a lot of these
"advances" are fairly trivial in real-world practical
terms, unless you are a competitive gamer or something
like that.
