There is a shop in the vicinity of Sherman Oaks (they
are still in business, and have since moved to a new
location a few blocks away) that services all kinds of
business machines. I've taken Epsons there a couple
times, and they've done a forced solvent cleaning of
the printhead, for $25. Good as new, even if it had
been clogged with old, dried ink. The last time was a
while ago, so the price may be higher now. I liked my
Epsons enough to consider this a good deal.
