Martin,
I'm using a Canon i860 (and the "OMNI.Canon i850" printer driver) with
satisfactory results. I've had it long enough that I'm certain it's out
of production, but they may be available on eBay or elsewhere. This
printer uses five ink cartridges. I just bought a replacement kit in a
single box that had four of the cartridges (it was missing the smaller
black cartridge) for about $43 at Fry's.
I replaced an Epson; I don't remember the model number for sure. The
print head seemed to go out on that printer. I read somewhere that the
Canon was cheaper on ink costs, and it may be true, but I don't print
very much. What I can say is that even though I sometimes go more than
a month without printing or turning the printer on, the ink supplies
have so far worked just fine until they were actually exhausted. The
Epson's ink sometimes would fail to print - maybe it dried up.
