I found a loose connector in one power line to drive B:. I replaced it.   
I also installed a virgin (still wrapped in plastic) data cable to both   
drives. A: works, B: does not.  
 
I remember as far back as when floppy drives had tiny jumpers on them. I   
think you had to set A: and B:. I believe the twisted cable did away   
with that need. None of my drives have jumpers (I think that is true of   
all new floppy drives). I can live with one floppy, but I like to solve   
these vexing problems.  
 
Is there a low level utility that may discover the problem? I will look   
for a floppy with DOS and hope I can still read from it.
