There are 3 types of protocols that you can use to establish your LAN connections
between your various home computers:
1. NETBEUI
2. NETBIOS OVER TCPIP
3. TCPIP
So, some thoughts on all of these:
A. You can only use NETBEUI or NETBIOS OVER TCPIP on any 1
logical network adapter; you cannot use both.
B. You have to use the some protocol on all of your computers for your
peer LAN.
C. You have to use the some TCP/IP domain name (Windows calls it a
Workgroup), otherwise your computers will not see/will not talk to each other.
D. NETBEUI is the safest protocol to use from an Internet attack point of
view.
E. If the Net.acc file is corrupted, it will result in "Access Denied" on a
remote machine, when you use the "NET VIEW \\COMPUTERNAME" on that remote
machine to view shares on your OS/2-eCS computer. A corrupted Net.acc does not
affect viewing sharings of remote (Windows) computers from your OS/2-eCS computer.
F. Symptom: When mapping a network drive using net use or using the
net view command to view a different computer in the domain, you may receive: "An
extended error has occurred" or "Access Denied" error messages.
1.) This issue may occur if the workstation doesn't
synchronize the time with the server. After verifying that basic network connectivity
exists, you can force time synchronization on the client computer manually. To do this,
run net time /domain /set command.
Make sure you have granted enough licenses for clients accessing.
2.) It can also occur if Null Sessions are disabled. To
re-enable Null Sessions on Window XP Home Edition edit the following Register key
and set it's value to 0:
HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/LSA/RestrictAnonymous = 0
(not =1, or = 2, both of which disable Null Sessions)
