Subject: SCOUG-Help: Video card initial resolution

Content Type: text/plain

FWIW department...

After finally speaking with a real person at AMD/ATI today AND doing some
additional research online, I have come to the following conclusion:

The answer appears to be that at this resolution, the data rate required to
support a resolution of 1920x1200 is in excess of what a single DVI channel can
support (165MHz), thus requiring a card with dual-link DVI. The Radeon 7200 is
apparently NOT in this category! This explains the fact that it works, sorta,
via the VGA interface which doesn't have the same clock restrictions as DVI.
There are just annoying little flashes and blinks, especially when displaying
text such as e-mail.

I need to replace the 7200 with something that supports Dual-link DVI, Radeon
X800 or better, from what I can now determine.

I am going for ATI Radeon due to support via SNAP and Panorama.
