Jordan,
I think the installation process is pretty darned good these days. All
I had to do for eCS 2.0 was tell the install not to use ACPI, and
everything worked like a charm. This is on my Dell Dimension 8400,
which I bought in January 2005. It has SATA drives (one original, one
added where eCS lives), and an added Intel PRO/1000 MT adapter.
Sound and Internet connectivity worked right out of the box after the
eCS 2.0 install. All of my data is visible, including (I think, I'll
have to go back and check) the WinXP stuff on NTFS.
All I have left to do is to figure out ACPI, migrate 3+ years of
applications to the new version of eCS, and maybe a few other things....
PMView, ProNews, OpenOffice, SeaMonkey, and who knows how much more? I
should be finished by the start of 2009 or so. (Or I could try to
migrate my eCS 1.24, if I were brave enough.)
