Top would not be useful. Theseus can do the job, but it a bit of
overkill. Hobbes has a number of small memory usage monitors. There are
also widgets that can be installed to XWorkplace's XCenter.

We've had this discussion before. Most likely you are running out of
linear address space. This has nothing to do with physical RAM.
