Tabs are under tools->options->tabs but I don't think what you are
talking about is handled there. I use v2.0.0.13 so if you are
using v3 then you are out of my league. Generally, when you click
(or ctrl-click) on a link you get a new tab. Also, CTRL-T gives a
new tab. Are you opening links in a new tab and then hitting home
when you are done, thus leaving the tab open?
I've had problems w/ FF where I can no longer 'lock' the window
size & position. When that happens I delete
%moz-home%\mozilla\firefox\profiles\localstore.rdf and then I get
my sizing capability restored next time I start FF (which recreates
the file). So you might try this trick, apparently nothing to
lose.
