Not the case here. I've noted that the automatic USB
detection has been present in some of the eCS 2 beta
or RC versions, but not in others. And even if it is
present, it's not 100 % -- I think I've just
demonstrated that.

On my 1.2GA partition, there never was any automatic
detection (that did not come until quite a bit later),
but I did not have the problem you describe. After
attaching a USB device (that was going to work), I'd
have to hit Refresh Removable Devices once or twice,
and *then* if I single-clicked on 3 or 4 desktop icons
in succession -- it doesn't matter which ones -- by
the time I went back to the Drives object in eCenter,
the new drive letter would have shown up, and I could
begin using it. A few seconds, rather than an hour.
Just out of curiosity, you might give that method a
try.
But -- obviously -- we're not all running the exact
same configuration or all obtaining the same results.
Whether it's driver versions or whatever, there must
be some different variables at work here.
