Subject: SCOUG-Help: Thumb drive was accessible in eCS, then it wasn't . .

Content Type: text/plain

I have both eCS 1.24 and eCS 2.0RC4 installed on my PC. I usually boot
to the eCS 1.24, because I'm too lazy to get my e-mail working on the
newer system, even though it is probably as easy as writing down some
file names.

As an experiment, I stuck a 128MB Compact Flash card in a PNY reader
that is at least five years old, and a 2GB Secure Digital card in a
reader that is labeled "i-Connect USB 2.0". Then I plugged the two
readers into the two USB ports on the front of my PC. I waited a bit,
then opened the Drives folder. It didn't show any removable media as
being present.

I clicked on "Refresh Removeable Media", and I waited a while. Sure
enough, both cards showed up. On eCS 1.24, I didn't get any messages
about the CF card (which ended up as drive H:), but I did get a message
about the SD card (drive I:). On eCS 2.0RC4, I got messages about both
drives.

On both versions of eCS, I could look at the Properties, and see the
Details (mainly the size of the disk, and the percent used). Both also
told me the Extended Attributes of the CF card were corrupted.

What version(s) of the operating system are you all using? Have you
made sure you are up to date on USB code? (I'm not even sure that I am,
but the stuff is working for me....)

What I do to get it to show up immediately in the drives folder is go to the command line and do a DIR of the drive letter it should be. After if is in the drives folder everything works without problems.
