Hi Svobi,

In my case it won't work because I'm not the domain holder for any of
the domains I want to check.

For example, suppose I want to check YOUR domain. I don't know who the
registrar is for synass.net so I go to BetterWhois.com. From there, I
can't look up synass.net without entering a one-time 4-digit code
designed to thwart automated lookups.

Suppose I do a one-time manual BetterWhois lookup to get your registrar
info, and I add Register.com to my info about synass.net along with the
expiration date reported by BetterWhois. Good, I now have the
expiration date -unless- you renew or switch registrars etc.

Register.com doesn't have whois.register.com access so I have to
manually go to their home page and click on their WhoIs, and _that_ link
contains a unique session i.d. which again thwarts automated lookup. I
could be sneaky and use wget to grab the page and then some Rexx to grab
the WhoIs link and then wget to access that page, but I will have to
write different scripts for every registrar because they will all use
different WhoIs methods. And this will all fail when you get to the
register.com Get_Challenge page which requires you to manually enter a
one-time six-character code designed to thwart automated lookups.

So your idea fails in all cases. :)

But thanks for trying,

- Peter
