Well in that case you need to do a whois and look at the output and figure out
how to parse the information. Not all registrars have the information in the
same format and in some cases you will not find any information about the
domain.
Here is what I do and it is much easier. If I want a domain name I check the
expiration date and if will be available within one year I then use godaddy to
grab it for me if it expires. Since you use godaddy I am surprised you don't
use their services, it is 8 or 9 dollars for a year of monitoring a domain name
and acquiring it if it becomes available plus the registration fee if they get
it for you.
