Yes, they all are LVM-free. That is part of my multi OS and swappable
HDDs compromise. And the systems are all clones of each other so they
are similar.

So as to to know what was happening and what was reported I put delay
statements after both IFS on all systems.
I say it is spending the time looking at the second HDD because the HDD
racks have individual LEDs and that one is on during the time of no
other apparent boot progress.
