I have had this problem on several machines for a long time. I just ran
across a possible solution last weekend:
On the RC4 (at least) CD, in the root directory, see FAQ.TXT at line
93 is an item about "ICON DRIFT ON THE DESKTOP". It recommends running:
cleanini /c /delall /multipass /restart
I tried it, and it seemed to work, but that partition crashed after
several days, and I didn't get a really goo test. I am in the process of
rebuilding.
YMMV. As always BACK UP!
