Martin,

I will be making my first foray into the world of SATA
in the upcoming rebuild of my tower system , which
will be based upon the Tyan Tomcat MB you recommended.
But I don't plan on going SATA for an optical burner
. . . .

That said, I am a fellow RSJ user, as is Harry Motin.
Whether your eCS sees the drive is one thing -- and I
think it probably *should*, barring some driver issue.
Whether or not RSJ can use it is another matter.
Despite anything they may claim about some universal
recognition feature for burners, I've found that one's
RSJ file CDDRV.INF is *critical.* First, I think you
need to find out what that drive "declares itself" to
be. For example, under W2K on the Thinkpad, if I
right-click on the CD in the Systray (as if I was
about to disconnect it), it will say "Matsushita
xxYY", or whatever that drive model designation I
can't recall at the moment happens to be. Write that
down when you find it. (I think there are a couple of
equivalent places in eCS where you can get the drive
to report itself -- without having to run the PCI
utility -- but I'm not sure just where.)

This identifying info has to be entered
*appropriately* into the CDDRV.Inf file. I have never
been able to parse the exact format that they use, and
ISTR that Harry wasn't able to either. Take a look at
the CDDRV file from my Shuttle box, which I'm going to
attach here. This is essentially one that was given
to me by RSJ tech support. Just WHY was it necessary
for them to have 7 or 8 variations of the line for my
Pioneer 108 burner in there ? Our best guess was that
they weren't sure either: that this was like shotgun
pellets, one of which hit the target. Actually, I
think this file was originally for the Pioneer 106 I
had used previously, but then I mass-changed those
lines to read "108" when I upgraded to the later
burner. Anyway, it worked.

Hope this helps.

Jordan
