Martin,

I did a quick browse of that info, and it looked to me
like a card such as the Hauppauge 250 (decidedly *not*
their most expensive model, either) came out at the
cheaper end of the curve, compared to many others.
Another brand that seemed to get mentioned a lot, as
if it was some sort of standard, was the Canopus line,
several of which cost much more.

If you were going to be dealing with a lot of copy
protected tapes, another factor to research is that
_some_ of these cards were quite resistant to
MacroVision, the major protection scheme used
commercially. Some other ones are highly resistant to
other protection mechanisms one might run into, if
trying to record movies or programs through -- say --
a cable box. Such features were actively being
stamped out by you-can-guess-who, so they have gotten
much harder to find in later models from many
manufacturers.
