Subject: SCOUG-Help: Getting full functionality out of a web-proxy

Content Type: text/plain

I'm going to put this out on the list, knowing full well that our server is likely to take a hike again at any moment. It seems to me that perhaps Steven is not the only one who may know the answer to this one. Bob ? (If the SCOUG server goes down again soon, please reply to my own email address.)

I'm trying to make use of some proxy server options. The functionality is no more than about halfway there for me, however. Specifically, anything that requires the use of Javascript &/or Cookies appears to be null and void, so far. (Yes, I did turn them ON, for the period in which they were needed.) This precludes providing any required info, checking checkboxes, etc. Wild Guess here: It *feels like* this may be because even though *I* have Javascript and Cookies going, the Proxy does not, and everything is getting relayed via them. So, it is like I don't actually have them.

This seems like it is not specific to any choice of OS or browser.

To this point, I've been trying out some intermediary sites such as Anon.Me. Perhaps that approach is part of the problem. I've known for a long time that there are Web Proxy config pages in just about every browser/version -- maybe even going back to NS 2.02 that our feathered friend still uses -- but I don't know much about 'em and have never used them. It would be great if I could find a great tutorial on this somewhere. My search engine searches using the keywords of 'Proxy Server+Javascript+Cookies' and the like have not brought up illuminating hits.
