It sounds like Steven had the good explanation for what you were seeing. In general, though, when you run into something like this, it _might_ have some testing value to try other browsers and even on other platforms, to note what you find. For example, if Dark Side IE exhibits similar problems (or doesn't), that might suggest something . . . but probably more along the lines of what Steven was saying.
