Tried this.
It produces a 'SYS1803 Chaining was attempted from a ReXX batch file.' error.
(Until it is preceeded with 'CALL'.)

Tried this.
It doesn't seem to output anything to test9.txt.
Same thing with the CALL inbetween '/c' and test8.

Definitly not the case, I don't have any such function - besides, CALL is
internal to CMD.EXE....
The CALL doesn't seem to make any difference.
