I've had weird things like that happen too (the loop when restarting the
desktop, etc.). For what it's worth, Steve's suggestion to run CHECKINI
is a good one -- CHECKINI _has_ solved some of the problems I've
occasionally had. If you don't have it yet (current version is 2.6),
get it from Henk Kelder's site at:
http://www.os2ss.com/information/kelder/index.html
(It's part of his WPTools collection.)
Follow the CHECKINI.TXT (and READ.ME) instructions.
-- 1. I _have_ had CHECKINI hang on me occasionally, and a reboot solves
that problem (CHECKINI then runs fine); thus, I highly recommend that
you _do_ save your .ini files as CHECKINI.TXT suggests.
-- 2. Boot just before you run it so all memory-cached links are flushed
to disk (where CHECKINI can find them).
-- 3. The program is a bit exasperating when it finds errors since you
have to "press a key" for each one -- not good when you have hundreds of
unlinked references (you'll be surprised how bad your .ini files are
when you run it). Use Ctrl-C to get out of it, then run it with the
/C and /Y options; it creates a log file so you can see the errors after
it's done.
