EMX is supposed to be insensitive to which slash you use, but I've found
this not to always be true. Forward slashes are safer.

What version does it claim to be?

The doc's should be "fully" ported (i.e. .INF versions exist). But
remember, this is unix. Tutorials and batteries are not included.

You can do it that way or tell the shell that .pl is an executable
extension or use EXTPROC.
