Success!
I found the reason the messages were getting lost in the O3
was a typo for the boundary string in the e-mail header,
which was leaving it as nothing, apparently less than a
null body piece of mail.
The boundary string is very important for MIME! :-)

Thanks to the people who put up with my ramplings on this list,
and offered various help and suggestions to check out,
I think Peter Skye pointed out RFC 1521.
