Subject: SCOUG-Programming: MIME question formulated & posed

OK, I think I've got all the typos corrected etc. and here is what I'm
sending into SMTP (modeled after a message I received.) :

#############################################################################

MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="myboundarystring"

* NOTE *
* NOTE * This is a mime encoded message
* NOTE *

--myboundarystring
Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

This is a test message to myself.

--myboundarystring--

Before correcting the typos, what got returned was this entire input
wrapped in a MIME envelope and base64 encoded, which I think is a layer of
MIME that shouldn't of been there.
Now, I send it out into the luminiferous ether, never to be seen again.

I think I'm missing something fundamental here, but what?
