We are going to have more time for our SIG meeting this time.
We need to address remaining issues that stand between
individuals and a level playing field. We need to see who has
which toolkits: IBM, emx, Watcom, etc.. We need to verify
their installation. We need to establish a comfort zone with
respect to the tools and the HPCalc source. Do we have any
volunteers to get us to this point? Greg? Dallas? Bob?
Steven?

We have to understand and address portability as well as
compatibility issues. They exist among similar tools on the
same platform, e.g. emx(gcc), Watcom, and VAC. They exist
among similar tools on different platforms, e.g. different
versions of the gcc. They exist in porting applications from
other platforms, e.g. Windoze, Linux, and UNIX, to OS/2.

We should find ourselves eventually masters of our tools, fully
capable of independently enhancing them to better meet our
individual needs. After all tools both enhance and restrict our
productivity. We need to overcome the restrictions through
further enhancements.

We need not concern ourselves at the rate at which we do
this. It will vary by individual, by interest, and by need.
Those ahead of the curve need to offer guidelines and
instruction to those behind. In that manner we can maintain
cohesion as a group while allowing different paths for
different individuals.

Somewhat early on we need to insure that we can participate
with others on common projects. To that end apparently we
need a certain skill level in CVS and PERFORCE. Someone
familiar with either should consider assisting us in reaching a
working, operational level.

I haven't forgotten the data repository/directory, the different
programming languages, database managers, and other topics.
I have my favorites as others have theirs. I think we have
room for extending our consideration and broadening our
knowledge.

There you have a number of topics from which to choose. I
suggest that early on each month we select from the list
those about which we desire more information and
experience. In that manner we can reflect our own dynamics
as we attempt to trace those of our topics.

That means we need input here on what you would like to
see broached in the next meeting. Somewhere along here
Dave Watson will suggest adding a chat session to our options.
That means finding a time or times most convenient and
regular.

At this moment I leave you in control. Cast your vote.
