Just in case readers get some idea of a wild hair up my   
you-know-what when I talk about the software automatically   
applying data rules I will refer you to the SQL Reference   
manual for DB2 under the general heading of contraints and   
including the topics of "unique constraints", "referential   
constraints", "table check constraints", and "triggers".
