No, it is the monitor.  It was off all night and still had the problem.  I had 
switched to VGA to see if there were problems with the higher resolutions but 
it did not help.  Had the same problem in the morning even in VGA mode.  
Everything started to work as soon as I hooked up the other monitor, I then 
reinstalled the same drivers I have been using since I installed this computer.
