I didn't know that. I remember that the 1400 compatibility was a
hardware option. My work was done in 1967 on a model 50 or model 65
(can't remember which) running whatever version of OS/360 was out then.
I *think* they ran it in 1400 (1401/1440/1460) mode on third shift.
