Either your help files are broken or they are not installed or you don't
know how to search.

From inside Mesa, try:

F1
Ctrl-S
template*
Enter

What lacking documention? From the WPS Desktop, try:

It can be. It can also have lots of predefined data, such as look up
tables and such.

In Mesa's case, the major difference between a template and a workbook is
a File -> Save request is going to be transformed to a File -> Saveas so
that the template does not get accidentally overwritten.
