Thanks, I just snatchola'd prtgraph from Hobbes. Both prtgraph and
vrprint appear to have the same base code, they're just compiled for use
under regular Rexx (prtgraph) or under VXRexx (vrprint).
>From the docs I think this will do what I want. There is a line spacing
setting and a GoTo command, thus I can set my vertical line spacing and
I can kern horizontally. The docs aren't clear on the resolution; they
refer to points (about 1/72"), mm (25.4/inch, the docs accidentally
dropped the decimal point so you get really tiny millimeters [or
really big inches]) and something I've never heard of called TWIPS which
are 1/10 of a point. TechWeb can't find any TWIPS but Google found lots
and everybody else's definition is 1/1440" which is 1/20 of a point (not
prtgraph's 1/10). I'll need to do a small amount of experimentation to
find out what the resolution actually is.
If the prtgraph GoTo command lets me set X and Y by TWIPS then I can
kern by sending a single character, then sending a GoTo to move the X
position slightly, and repeat for every character in the line. Hey,
that's what I do when I write PCL and it works fine.
Thanks, Steven.
