Subject: SCOUG-Programming: FM/2 compiler switch (moved from SCOUG-BOD list)

Content Type: text/plain

(This thread was originally on the BOD list and pertains in part to
Greg's proposed compiler presentation at the next meeting.)

Thanks for the clarification.

I couldn't find the readme reason. (I can't even figure out why there
are both README and readme.org files. I compared them with PMDiff; the
readme.org file is the README file with some of the lines removed. Oh
wait, switching to Details view shows the readme.org file is much older
-- it must be Kimes' original readme, yes? Perhaps you can change the
name to readme.mk for those of us who see .org and think it means
"organization", not "original"? Other people are going to "read the
wrong one" just like I did.)

The HISTORY file only says you switched; it doesn't give a reason.

You do realize I'm still totally confused, yes? Like why does a file
bigger than 4 GB result in a display error unless you switch compilers?
You weren't typing an entire 4 GB file onto the screen, were you? If
you were, let me look around for a 0.000001 point font you can use . . .

Greg, can you also cover a smidgeon of VAC 3.65 just for comparison? I
have never used C and would certainly like to understand the pros and
cons of these three compilers (GCC, Watcom, VAC).

Thanks everyone,

- Peter
