It's not whether I prefer an Eclipse plug-in over jEdit. As I said I have no practical experience
with Eclipse. It seemed reasonable to me that a plug-in to get Eclipse to do what we want may be
easier. I know jEdit does much, much more than we need and it seems reasonable to me that wading
through what we now know is 2000 pages of Java code to be in a position to modify it to our
specification may be quite daunting. If we can beat jEdit into "our" shape I'm all for it. I like
that editor.

I'm not sure I understand what discarding we will eventually have to do. If we get jEdit, or
perhaps a subset of jEdit, to do what we want why will we have to discard it?

Now if this modification to jEdit that we have been discussing is simply a boot-strap to get us to a
place where we can make "our own real editor" using your system than maybe an Eclipse plug-in, if in
fact it is easier than a jEdit modification, may warrant another look.
