For myself, I am interested more in design of the actual spreadsheets. I
am very focused on consolidating my financial situation so that I can
make adjustments in my investments. I guess that this is kind of
unusual, to want to deal with money with a spreadsheet.
I also use Spitfire's InCharge and find it very difficult to use.
Especially the investment stuff.
Be advised that I work a 10 hour day. I find I end up with about 2 hours
of personal time after all the overhead of daily life is subtracted.
That's not 2 hours of computer time, but 2 hours total. If my wife
insists that I watch Gladiator with her, as she did last week, then
that day's time is shot. My weekend time is even more precious.
I simply don't have time to banter over the fine points. You'll probably
get about 20 messages from Peter and/or Steven to my one.
Right now, I'm working with a worksheet that has three main sections.
The left hand side has the percentage increase (or decrease lately)
columns. 5yrs, 3yrs, 1yr, 9months, 6months, & 3 months. The middle
section is the investment name and account number. The remaining columns
are devoted to fund totals with the most recent numbers adjacent to the
info section. As stuff gets old it gets moved out to the right by adding
a new column. That way I have a complete history of funds.
Don't feel that this is a work complete because I have just come up with
the idea this week. I haven't even started on the percent increase
section other than the titles. I plan to have absolute cell addresses in
the formula, so that as the data on the other side of the page moves out
the percentages change. Cool. At least that's the plan. Hopefully I can
make it work.
There is a complete lack of dummy spreadsheets out there for people to
emulate/copy. It's kind of silly. The inference is that everyone has an
accounting degree. Expect lots of questions about percentages.
